Updated Squad News: Harry Kane cleared for Nations League, Ezri Konsa, Kobbie Mainoo and Morgan Gibbs-White ruled out

LONDON – In good news for England fans, Bayern Munich confirmed on Oct 7 that captain Harry Kane does not have a structural injury. Following an examination by Football Association (FA) medical staff, Kane will continue with the national team for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

However, England’s FA said Ezri Konsa, Kobbie Mainoo and Morgan Gibbs-White will miss the games against Greece and Finland through injury.

Kane, who has scored 10 goals in nine games across all competitions for the Bundesliga club this season, was competing for a ball when he clashed with an Eintracht Frankfurt player and collapsed to the ground grimacing in pain.

Bayern physios could be seen treating his right leg before he was taken off in the second half of the 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Oct 6.

Bayern said Kane travelled directly from Frankfurt to England on Oct 7 and the FA medical staff examined the 31-year-old on arrival.

“All-clear for Harry Kane,” Bayern said in a statement.

“The examination by the England football team medical staff has shown that Harry Kane does not have a structural injury... (He) will therefore remain with the England squad for the upcoming internationals.”

Aston Villa defender Konsa suffered a hamstring injury just 12 minutes into their 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Oct 6.

Mainoo missed Manchester United’s Europa League 3-3 draw with Porto on Oct 3 with an injury concern, but returned to play against Villa on Oct 3 and was substituted in the 85th minute.

Gibbs-White picked up an injury in Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Oct 6.

“No further additions planned at this time,” the FA said in a statement.

England play Greece at Wembley Stadium on Oct 10 in the Nations League, and face Finland three days later.

Mainoo’s club teammate Alejandro Garnacho will miss Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia due to discomfort in his left knee, the team said on Oct 7.

The 20-year-old completed against Villa but will not join up with the Argentina squad.

Argentina, who lead the standings on 18 points from eight games, visit sixth-placed Venezuela on Oct 10 and host Bolivia, who are eighth, on Oct 15.

Garnacho was initially called up for the two games, but coach Lionel Scaloni has now replaced him with Leicester City’s Facundo Buonanotte.

Garnacho has seven caps and played in the Copa America in the United States, where Argentina clinched a record 16th title in July.

Meanwhile, Italy have called up uncapped Undinese striker Lorenzo Lucca after Fiorentina forward Moise Kean left the camp with lower back pain, the Italian Football Federation said.

Lucca, 24, received his first Italy call-up in March but had to withdraw due to a thigh injury. He has scored three goals in seven league appearances for Udinese this season.

Italy, will host Belgium on Oct 10 and Israel on Oct 14 in the Nations League.
