During Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw against Crystal Palace, Cole Palmer achieved a new Chelsea record.
Palmer has been an an incredible upwards trajectory ever since he joined the Blues in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City in a deal worth £42.5m.
In his first season at the club, Palmer remarkably broke Eden Hazard’s Chelsea record for the most goals and assists in a single Premier League campaign.
Palmer conjured up 22 goals and 11 assists across 34 Premier League games last term and he’s already made an impressive start to the new 2024-25 season.
Across his first two matches, Palmer produced one goal and three assists, and he’s now followed that up with a fourth assist in his third match against Palace.
Palmer was heavily involved in Chelsea’s first goal as his pass left Nicolas Jackson with the simple task of tapping home to give the Blues the lead in west London.
It means that Palmer has four assists in his first three Premier League matches of the season, which has seen him equal a record held by two former Chelsea stars.
Only Hazard (2012-13) and Cesc Fabregas (2014-15) have achieved that feat before, with Palmer writing himself into even more Chelsea history.
‘Great breakaway from Chelsea,’ former Premier League defender Curtis Davies told the BBC as he watched Palmer’s assist against Palace.
‘Marc Guehi loses the ball and Chelsea play it straight to Noni Madueke. Madueke knocks it to Palmer and Jackson then gets a tap in at the back post.’
Chelsea were unable to secure three points in the end after Eberechi Eze levelled up the match in the second half, with the Eagles hanging on to secure a draw.
The Blues are back in action on September 14 when they face a trip to the south coast to take on AFC Bournemouth.
The Cherries produced a sensational comeback in their last match – trailing 2-0 at Everton until the 87th minute – before they scored three quick goals to win it 3-2.
