New Delhi: The anticipation for the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025 season continues to grow, with expectations that the BCCI will host the event towards the end of November. As teams prepare for the auction, they are required to reveal their list of retained and released players. Exciting news has emerged regarding Sunrisers Hyderabad, the previous season's runner-up. Reports suggest that the franchise, under the ownership of Kavya Maran, is willing to splurge a staggering Rs 23 crore to retain a player. Surprisingly, it is rumored that the team is not considering retaining their captain Pat Cummins or star opener Travis Head, but rather South Africa’s explosive wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen at the highest bid amount.

Klaasen is the number-1 choice and Cummins will remain captain:

Hyderabad bought Pat Cummins for Rs 20.50 crore last season. In this way, he proved to be the second most expensive player in IPL history. Hyderabad also made him the captain and he took the team to the finals. Despite this, SRH is not ready to retain him by paying the highest amount. ESPN-Cricinfo’s report claims that last season’s runner-up Hyderabad will choose Klaasen as its first retention, who scored 479 runs last season at a tremendous strike rate of 171. However, Cummins will get about Rs 2.5 crore less this time. The report states that the franchise will retain its captain for Rs 18 crore as the second retention. However, the responsibility of captaincy will again remain in the hands of Cummins.

Decision on Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma:

At the same time, the young Indian batter Abhishek Sharma, who surprised everyone with his explosive opening in the last season, has been decided to be retained at number three and for this he will get Rs 14 crore. The surprising thing is that Abhishek Sharma scored 484 runs at a strike rate of 204 and hit the most 42 sixes. Travis Head scored more runs than both of them. 567 runs came from his bat at a strike rate of 191.55. In such a situation, it was believed that Head or Pat Cummins would be made the first retention but SRH has surprised everyone by taking this decision regarding Klaasen. However, it is also clear that the franchise will also retain Head but it is not clear at what salary he will be retained.

Nitish Kumar Reddy will also be retained:

Apart from him, SRH has also decided to retain young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Reddy impressed in just a few innings in his debut season and recently made his T20 International debut for Team India, where he scored 74 runs in just 34 balls against Bangladesh. Apart from this, he was also successful in taking 3 wickets in the series. In such a situation, this player will prove to be an important part of SRH in the next season as well. The last date for retention has been fixed by BCCI as 31 October.
