New Delhi: The prestigious domestic cricket tournament in India, the Ranji Trophy, is gearing up for its highly anticipated return for the 2024-25 season. The much-awaited competition is all set to kick off on Friday, October 11, 2024, and will run until March the next year.
The competition will showcase 32 teams competing for the ultimate prize in Indian domestic cricket. For the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, these teams have been categorized into four groups: Elite Group A, Elite Group B, Elite Group C, and Elite Group D.
The 32 teams, representing different regions across India, are- Baroda, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mumbai, Odisha, Services, Tripura, Andhra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, Bengal, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Railways, Saurashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, each team in the group stages will compete in seven matches. Following the group rounds, four quarter-finals will take place at various venues starting on February 8, 2025. The semi-finals are set to begin on February 17, with the final scheduled for Wednesday, February 26.
Mumbai are the defending champions of the Ranji Trophy, having triumphed over Vidarbha in the final of the 2023-24 season.
Additionally, six teams will compete in the Plate round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. These six teams are- Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Goa, Manipur, Sikkim, and Mizoram.
The Plate round will also commence on Friday, October 11, with its final scheduled for January 23, 2025. The top two teams from this round will advance to the Elite groups for the subsequent Ranji Trophy season, while the bottom two teams from each of the four Elite Groups will be relegated to the Plate group for the next season.
All matches in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, including both Elite and Plate rounds, will start at 9:30 AM IST on their respective match days.
